Grand Valley Community Contra Dance

Grand Valley Community Contra Dance Society dances are being held in our old dance hall, upstairs at 523½ Main Street, Grand Junction. Dances are from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for new dancers and 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m for Contra Dancing. Dancers enjoy live Celtic and Old-Time music from outstanding musicians. No experience is necessary, all dances are taught. Come with or without a partner.

A half-hour “new dancers workshop” beginning at 7:00 is useful for folks who haven’t been to a contra dance before. Some basic introductory instruction and figures are demonstrated prior to the actual dance at 7:30.

Each dance includes several contras with a couple of waltzes, a polka and occasional demonstrations of other dances (Irish step dance, ballroom).

Donation: adults $8, students $5 and under 18 $4.

A Family Dance is held right before the regular contra dance every January.  People ages 5 and up can come and enjoy dancing to live music with their families and friends and community members. Fun and simple dances are taught and cued by a local music teacher. We have been putting the family dances on since 2003. Each year we enjoy watching as "talls and smalls" dance with one another. See our photo album for pictures of this fun dance!

Donation: family $14, adults $6 and under 18 $4
